Case-Study (Facebook)

Again, I don't get what case-study means. Is it a case-study about a person or a case-study about the entire Facebook or just a case-study about something on Facebook (eg. the Adidas page)? So, I'm doing choice 3 and praying its correct:

The Adidas fan page offers all the usual attributes of a strong page: active fans, a branded application, lots of content variety, plus, good video, pictures and notes. That’s all good stuff, but what really makes them stand out is the way they use their page’s tools to promote their other social media and advertising campaigns.

Running a contest on Facebook brings variety to a page’s content, engages fans, and has the ability to directly increase the company’s revenue by introducing new customers to the brand. Lots of brands attempt to promote campaigns on Facebook, but there are only a few that I have seen do it well. Adidas is one of those brands.

Most recently, Adidas teamed up with MTV to run an exclusive Facebook contest where a fan could win an all-expenses-paid house party. Their campaign was successful for a few reasons. First, Adidas chose a prize and partner that would resonate with the Facebook user demographic. Second, they wisely chose to promote the contest on their fan page not only before the contest, but after it had ended as well.

Once they had chosen the lucky winner, they used their page to share the fan’s blog posts, photos and videos from the party. The integration of status updates, photos, notes and videos, with a smart contest, resulted in a whole lot of fan engagement, and keeping the winning fan involved even after the contest had ended showed their commitment to fans and helped them get extra mileage out of the campaign. The contest also gave the page content variety by breaking up the usual status updates with something new, fun, and with an included call to action for fans to get involved.

Hope you like the case-study. By the way, this is the last project post. Yay!~~~ :]

Inspirational Use Of Facebook

I know the meaning of inspirational but I'm not too clear about what it actually means in the title the teacher has assigned. Ah well. I'll just type what I think it means.

1. Facebook can inspire or encourage people to socialize more, by enabling them to 'befriend' others on Facebook and chat with them online.

2. Facebook can allow people to create pages about things, food, movies, books , songs, artistes/singers and other stuff that they enjoy or like and others who have common interests can 'like' the page and see the posts and other people who 'like' the page too/ enabling us to communicate with people who have interests in the same area as us.

3. Facebook lets people befriend others and therefore after graduating, leaving or going away, people can still keep in touch with their old friends, teachers or colleagues on Facebook.

4. Facebook allows people to chat online, so that they can catch up or in the case of a student, if their friend/s is/are online, he or she can verify answers with their friend/s and even ask what homework has been assigned if they were on medical leave that day or weren't paying attention in class.

5. On Facebook, you can upload pictures and comment on them or others' pictures. If you upload your own photos, you can show your friends the pictures of your recent overseas trip, holiday at a resort or hotel, visit to the new theme park etc.

There are many inspirational (are they?)  uses of Facebook and I can't type them all out but hope these will let you know more about Facebook and its uses. :]

Cyber-Wellness Tips

These tips will come in handy if you are just about to create a Facebook account or just require some tips on cyber-wellness. Again, Hear Our Say requires only four but I have an extra.

1. Never reveal your personal data such as contact numbers, address (basic common knowledge), current location or other data that might give away your location or other personal things. Be alert and do not let slip data accidentally.

2. Be careful and always be alert, as you might think these cases are extremely rare but they are actually fairly common. The easiest target is someone who lets his/her guard down because he/she thinks it will never happen to themselves.

3. Do not believe everything you see on Facebook as there will surely be a PWHHI that is faking at least one thing about him/herself. Examples: Age, gender etc.

4. If you receive a friend request from someone whom you are not familiar with, please reject it immediately even if you think it will benefit your game progress. If you encounter a friend who changes his/her name on Facebook (not that you would know, so reject it first.) Examples from some of my old friends: Alexis Lee becomes Alexis lovestomakealotofnoise (Loves to make alot of noise) and Rachel Yeo becomes Rachel SupercuteYeo. Just go to school and confirm their Facebook name then send a request to them.

5. If you encounter any cyber-bullies or have any problems online, do not hesitate to tell your parents. If you do not wish to, you can always go to the school counsellor or call up any help-line.

Hope you find the tips useful. :]

Dangers Of Facebook

Facebook is a really useful social networking tool and I admit that I like using it. However, there will definitely be some psycho (person who has harmful intentions) who wants your personal information. These can be the consequences:

1. PWHHI (Person/People Who Has/Have Harmful Intentions) may find out your contact numbers or email and will be able to spam you or send 'chain' messages.

2. PWHHI might try and harm you by telling you his or her fake age and try to meet up with you.

3. PWHHI will know your gender and age.

4. PWHHI will know your whereabouts from your recent posts or status updates.

5. PWHHI might find out which school you study at from what you 'Like' on Facebook, post or comment and be able to locate you.

Again, my project requires only 4 but I just added an extra for your benefit. :]
